About Rayna
WhoOpening doors for communication is at the heart of everything I do.
In 2019, I obtained my master's in Speech-Language Pathology, but I felt limited by that path because words are only one way that we communicate.
The first way that I truly felt able to communicate was with my body, through dance and movement, and it is what I trust the most when receiving messages from people, plants, ancestors, and the ethereal realms.
To strengthen that trust in myself, I have trained in ayurveda, plant spirit medicine, herbalism, curanderismo, trauma-informed and accessible yoga asanas, dance/somatics, mental wellness, and energy healing.
I offer these various modalities for healing based on client requests and what is being communicated to me with the most fervor.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, we do! Have you ever walked into a room and felt tension before anyone told you there was just an argument? You’re feeling the energy of the room! The Heart Math Institute has found that we have an electromagnetic field radiating from our heart at least three feet in all directions. The theory that I follow is that emotions hold a certain frequency. If emotions are not processed (e.g. we learned to quit crying and put on a happy face) or if we unknowingly absorbed someone else’s energy from their unprocessed emotions (think of a kid playing in the same room while their caregivers are fighting), those energies from that emotion become embedded in the physiology. This can look like illness, dis-ease, or being prone to injuries in the same spot. With energy work, these energies will come back into flow through your body in a way that is supportive for your overall health. You may find that an emotion you haven’t processed comes back up, or you come back to a similar situation with a new perspective. You don’t have to relive the traumatic events in order to heal from them and release those energies from your system.
Reiki is a type of energy healing that comes from Japan. Rei-ki translates to universal life force energy. Many cultures have their own forms of energy healing and have different names, like prana or qi. I like to think of this as unconditional love energy. During a session, this energy flows through me to you. I am not the one “putting in, removing, changing” and energy. It all comes from this unlimited source of universal love energy. When I channel this energy, I follow it to show me where you may be energetically vulnerable and support the energy flowing into a more balanced state. You may feel some, all, or none of the following: tingling, temperature shifts, discomfort like something is being dislodged and then released, dream-like thoughts or images, colors, or a deep restful nap!
I am an animist, meaning that I know that every being – trees, fungi, minerals, trees, elements, etc. – all have souls and are living conscious beings. I have studied herbalism for just under a decade, but the focus was always on “what can this plant do for me?”. Since connecting with higher states of consciousness through meditation, I have met the spirits of many plants and realized that we all come together to support each other. I have released the transactional/pharmaceutical concepts of “take this for that” and replaced it with right relationship and reciprocity. When connecting with a plant spirit, I invite them in and ask for their support on whatever is needed during a session.
Curanderismo is a holistic healing practice that spans across the Americas and focuses on the tonalli, or the spiritual essence of the individual. It is an amalgamation of a variety of practices from Yucatec Maya, Aztec Mexica, African, Indigenous, and as a result of colonization. While it is a spiritually based practice, one does not have to be religious or part of the diaspora to receive wellness sessions. Sessions usually begin with platicas, or heart-straightening talks, where the client discusses what is on their heart and mind, and the practitioner uses this information and intuition to inform the healing aspect of the session. Regardless of what techniques are worked with, the platica is the first and very powerful form of energy work, as the conversations are energy in motion. Homework will be provided to ensure that the client sees accessible and sustainable results for motivation for their healing journey.
Ayurveda is one of the oldest healing modalities rooted in India. Ancient Vedic texts, of which a fraction survived due to colonization, are over 5,000 years old and indicate a variety of healing modalities and studies on life through the Vedas. Ayurveda can be translated into the "science of life". At its core, Ayurveda can be distilled into the balance of elements within and around us and how those elements manifest in our lives. We each comprise our own ratios of elements within: earth, water, fire, air, and space. When we are in balance with our unique manifestation of elements, we experience health. When those elements become out of balance, we may experience a variety of ailments. While Ayurveda focuses on rebalancing the whole being, we can also work with Ayurveda for preventative care as well. By listening to the nature within and around us, we can experience true sovereignty, self-referral, and overall wellness. A variety of modalities can be utilized to support overall wellness, such as dietary recommendations such as eating according to the seasons and time of day, lifestyle routines such as daily meditation, and other mental, social, emotional, and spiritual habits. There are no one-size-fits-all recommendations in Ayurveda, even from session to session with the same client. By observing nature within and around us, we can flow with the seasons of life, time, and nature to come back home to ourselves.
No two sessions will ever be the same, just as we are never the same from moment to moment. Depending on your needs, I may pull from a variety of modalities, traditions, and rituals to support your current needs and goals. I work with my ancestral wisdom as well as the knowledge gained throughout my years of study in a variety of fields. We are cocreators in this realm, where you are in the driver's seat. I am here to remind you of your innate magic, intuition, and inherent worth for your ultimate wellness.
